We recently had the pleasure of hosting a remarkable individual on our podcast, “It’s All Connected.” Stormy King, a retired clinical psychologist living in the serene and picturesque far north of California, shared their extraordinary journey of growing up amidst the transformative era of the hippie movement. Today, we’d like to introduce Stormy and shed light on their unique experiences and profound spiritual awakening.
Stormy’s childhood was far from ordinary. From attending the iconic Watts Acid Test at the tender age of 12 to being present at the historic 1967 Monterey International Pop Festival, their formative years were immersed in the countercultural milieu that shaped an entire generation. Guided by a family that embraced alternative philosophies and thinkers like Aldus Huxley, Edgar Casey, and Timothy Leary, Stormy’s worldview was already primed for the spiritual revelations that lay ahead.
In 1965, just before turning 12, Stormy’s mother gifted them with a pure dose of LSD, leading to a profound and transformative experience. This chemically induced spiritual awakening sparked a series of family trips, conducted within the context of sacred occasions such as Christmas and the summer solstice. These experiences fostered a deep connection to spirituality and planted the seeds for a lifelong exploration of consciousness.
While Stormy’s upbringing and early experiences laid the groundwork for a spiritual path, their personal journey encountered its share of challenges. With two marriages and divorces, battles with various addictions, and a multitude of life lessons learned the hard way, Stormy’s path was far from linear. However, inspired by the teachings of Ram Dass, Stormy found the strength and determination to make transformative changes in recent years.
In the past few years, Stormy has dedicated themselves to intense study and implementation of the teachings that resonate deeply with their soul. Drawing upon the wisdom of Ram Dass and other spiritual luminaries, Stormy now practices radical acceptance and strives to prioritize what is best for the collective. Embracing a life full of joy, Stormy exclaims, “It’s a blast to be me!” Their renewed commitment to spiritual growth and living in the present moment is a testament to the resilience and transformation that can arise from even the most challenging of journeys.
